Lecture by Natasha Trethewey, U.S. poet laureate for 2012-2013 and a 1989 graduate of UGA.She is the author of Native Guard, for which she won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, and Beyond Katrina: A Meditation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, published by the University of Georgia Press. Her collection Thrall was published this year by Houghton Mifflin. Trethewey is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University.Trethewey’s lecture will be immediately followed by a public reception in Demosthenian Hall.
