Bluebilly Grit takes you to a crossroad where Old Fashioned Bluegrass meets Progressive, Contemporary, and Rockabilly. Guaranteed to spark your intellect with thoughtful lyrics, and get your feet stomping with explosive rhythms – Bluebilly have been a mainstay of our popular Terrapin Tuesday Series, and now they have moved in to our Thursday slot! Join them as they take the stage, supported by Johnny Roquemore & The Apostles, fronted by Atlanta singer/songwriter Johnny Roquemore.
From the side porch of an old gristmill to the main stage of The Telluride Bluegrass Festival, BlueBilly Grit has quickly become a force in Bluegrass and Americana. Their modern style, which blends Bluegrass and Americana music, has a way of appealing to the newer generation of the grassroots movement, and by those that have a love for the more traditional sound. Their unrivaled three part harmony, traditional instrumentation, and the lead vocals of their soulful female singer are what make this magical blend work. In February of 2011, an original song written and recorded about the old gristmill was shipped to 800 radio stations in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. The song was released on a compilation CD along with songs from Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Steve Martin, and The Grascals. BlueBilly Grit also won the 2012 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition. BlueBilly Grit has done several radio and TV spots this past year, including "Nuts and Bolts of Fishing" which aired on Turner Sports South and the "Moby in the Morning Show," a nationally syndicated radio show based in Atlanta. BlueBilly Grit recently released their second album, “Ready For A Change,” and the group is currently in the studio working on a third album, and a live video performance. Amidst much uncertainty in the musical world of today, BlueBilly Grit seems to be holding their course, and humbly admits that a source greater than themselves appears to be calling the shots. BlueBilly Grit takes pride in the fact that they’re not just another “hot lick, blazing solo” bluegrass band. It’s all about the song with this group, and rightly so because they have something to say! more >>> Johnny Roquemore is an award winning songwriter vocalist and guitarist.
Johnny has earned Atlanta’s Creative Loafing Magazine’s critic’s choice for “Best Local Singer/Songwriter”, Georgia Music Magazine’s “The 25 Local Albums For 2005? and the Georgia Music Industry Association’s “Best of Country” award. In his latest (21st) album titled “Malibu Holiday,” Johnny brings his awkward sensibilities to bear on straining the limits of Folk and Bluegrass. Mr. Roquemore’s songs contain good music and intelligent lyrics. Therefore may not be suitable for today’s listener. more >>> General Admission $5/$7 day of show
